Marjorie Escude Wright

(October 09, 1915 - December 22, 2015)

A Mass of Christian Burial for Margie Wright will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Church of the Little Flower in Evergreen with the Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino, V.G. officiating. Burial will follow in the Bayou Rouge Baptist Cemetery in Evergreen. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie. 

Mrs. Wright was born on October 9, 1915 in Mansura , LA , the daughter of Arthur Julius Escude and Martha Aurora Regard. She grew up in Mansura and attended Catholic Schools there. After high school she went to Northwestern State College in Natchitoches , graduating with a degree in physical education and French. 

Margie, as she was called, had an older sister, Constance Escude (deceased). Their mother died when they were quite young and later their father, who was mayor of Mansura for a while, married Erline Alma Ramsey. This marriage produced three more children; Faye Escude Truex (deceased), Alma Rose “Weazie” Escude Perron, and Arthur J. Escude “Old Man” (deceased). 

Margie was a teacher at Bunkie High School until her marriage to Henry Clay Wright of Evergreen on December 23, 1939 . They lived in Baton Rouge for five years during World War II before returning to the Wright family farm in Evergreen. 

Margie was a homemaker and a fabulous cook. Her cooking skills led her to become the head dietician at Bunkie Hospital for several years. 

Clay and Margie had five children; Martha Kay Wright McDonald (Don), Constance Lynn Wright, Kathryn Ann Wright Juneau, Henry Clay Wright, Jr. (deceased) and John Arthur Wright (Deanna Barrere Wright). 

These children have given Margie 11 grandchildren (2 deceased) and 11 great-grandchildren. 

Margie’s interests over the years include cooking, needlepoint, water color painting, reading, crossword puzzles, fishing and gardening. 

In September of 2000, her husband of 60+ years died and she decided to move into the Bailey Place in Bunkie where she passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the age of 100. 

Pallbearers will include; Cody Juneau, Henry Clay Wright, William Daniel Wright, Thomas Wright, Russell McDonald, and William Odom. Honorary pallbearers are Stebo Pearce, Don McDonald, Larry Chenevert and James Turner. 

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 with family visiting at 4:00 p.m. and then again from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
