Metreades Dwight Descant, Jr.

Funeral mass for M.D. Descant, Jr. will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Revs. Scott Chemino, David Braquet, Steve Testa, Joe Montalbano, and Deacon Paul Plaisance officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Cemetery in Bunkie. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mr. Descant, age 82, of Bunkie, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna M. Descant; his parents, M.D. Descant and Alida Descant; three brothers, Elster Descant, Jimmy Descant, and Elmer “Buck” Descant; and four sisters, Birdie St.Romain, Aline St.Romain, Carrie Lemoine, Lou Ella Moreau and Nellie Riche.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Descant of Bunkie; four sons, Don P. Descant and his wife Becky, Metreades Dwight Descant, III and his wife Brenda, Charles T. Descant and his wife Melinda all of Bunkie, and Trent Descant of Carencro; one daughter, Kay Lee and her husband Jim of Bunkie; one step-daughter, Nannette Sanderson and her husband Kevin of Jackson, Mississippi; one sister, Freida Riche of Bunkie; twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Coast Guard, sErving on a troop transport in the Caribbean, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. He was the founder of M.D. Descant, Inc., a commercial construction company sErving throughout the state of Louisiana. He was awarded businessman of the year in 1981. He served as District Chairman of the A.G.C. for Central Louisiana as well as several boards of the A.G.C. of LA in Baton Rouge. He was a past director of the Bunkie Bank and Trust Company. Mr. Descant was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bunkie and served as a member of the Knight of Columbus Council of Bunkie for 57 years. He was also a past Commander of the American Legion and a member of the Lion’s Club, Bunkie Chamber of Commerce, and a past member of the Avoyelles Democratic Committee.

Pallbearers will include; Michael Descant, Patrick Descant, Ross Descant, Chas Descant, Morgan Descant and Met Descant. Honorary pallbearers will include; Jade Descant, Charlotte Lee, Kelsey Lee, Megan Lemoine, and Annie Schmitt. Cross bearer will be Connor Descant. Alter Servers will be Dominique Sanderson, Callie Coulon, and Matthew Ducote.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and 8 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Childrens Foundation, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, or St. Anthony Catholic School, 116 S. Knoll, Bunkie, LA 71322.
