U.S. Veteran Funeral services for Lewis "John" Channey will be at 11:00 am, Sunday, June 14, 2009 in the Chapel of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie. Burial will be in the Bayou Rouge Baptist Cemetery, Evergreen under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home. Mr. Channey, age 76, of Bunkie passed away on Friday, June 12, 2009 in his residence surrounded by family and friends.He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellie Townsend and his step-father, Frank Townsend. .

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Pam Channey of Bunkie. Their friendship started early in grammar school. John proudly served his country in Korea, as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. When he returned home after his tour was over, Pam and Johnnie married. He began working in the oilfield industry, where he and Pam traveled to foreign countries. When he retired, he and Pam settled back home in Bunkie and began a dry cleaning business, "Channey Cleaners". John is also survived by one son Mike Channey and his wife, Kathy, of Bunkie; one daughter, Christine Hewerdine and her husband, Lonnie, of Gulf Breeze, FL. Mr. Channey was also blessed with four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, five sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law that he considered his own siblings. Pallbearers will be Matthew Casbon, Buddy Chenevert, Brandon LaCombe, Brent LaCombe, Ronald McGuire and Andrew Rachal.

Visitation will be at Melancon Funeral Home from 4:30 pm - 9 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2009 and from 9 am - 10:45 am on Sunday, June 14, 2009.
