Faye Escude Truex, a native and longtime resident of Mansura, was born in the family home April 28, 1927 and died peacefully at the family home January 18, 2008, at the age of 80. She died with grace and dignity from lung cancer.

She is survived by six daughters; three sons-in-law; one son and daughter-in-law, Marian and Gary Winsper of Naples, Itlay; Claire and Wayne Reason of Mansura/Riyad Saudia Arabia; Mary and Jim Nolan of Shreveport; Ann Martin of West Virginia; Elizabeth Truex of Mansura; Laura Roy of Youngsville; and Joe and Mihoko Obunai Truex of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by one sister Alma Rose Perron of Lafayette, and one half sister, Marjorie Wright of Evergreen; eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, Leonard J. Truex, her parents Arthur Julius and Erline Ramsey Escude; one brother, Arthur "Old Man" Escude and one half sister, Constance Escude.

She was a parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church. A legendary icon in the Parish, she was a retired teacher who touched the lives of countless young people and was an exemplary mentor and friend to so very many. Her love for children and young adults is evidenced daily in the lives of thousands of children who are now productive adults. Her civic and cultural contributions included membership in La Commission des Avoyelles, Theatre des Bon Temps, Arts and Humanities Council of Avoyelles, and Avoyelles Commission of Tourism.

She received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, and her Master's degree from Southern Mississippi College, in Natchez, Mississippi.

A Christian Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Mansura, with interment at the St Paul the Apostle Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Footnote:  IT IS WITH A MOST HEAVY HEART THAT I INFORM YOU OF THE DEATH OF MRS. FAYE EXCUDE TRUEX WHO PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) AT 4:30 P.M. AT HER MANSURA HOME WITH SOME OF HER CHILDREN AT HER SIDE.

MRS. TRUEX TRULY DID NOT FEAR DEATH AS SHE LIVED A LONG MEANINGFUL LIFETIME RAISING A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY OF SEVEN CHILDREN, GIVING 38 YEARS TO THE EDUCATION SYSTEM AS A WONDERFUL HISTORY TEACHER.

I CRIED MYSELF TO SLEEP NEAR THE MIDNIGHT HOUR LAST EVENING NOT FOR MY DEAR FRIEND FAYE TRUEX BUT FOR MYSELF AND HER FRIENDS WHO WILL NOT BE ABLE EVER AGAIN TO SHARE THE JOY OF HER COMPANY IN THIS LIFETIME. I WILL MISS THOSE BACKPORCH CHATS LIKE THE ONE WE EXPERIENCED ONLY A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AT HER MANSURA HOMESTEAD.

JUST OFF THE PHONE WITH DAUGHTER MARION T. WINSPER THIS MORNING WHO REPORTS THEY ARE ALL STILL NUMB OVER THEIR SPECIAL MOM'S PASSING SO QUICKLY. MRS. FAYE CHOSE TO BE CREMATED AND A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL PROBABLY BE HELD ON TUESDAY IN MANSURA.

PLEASE KEEP MRS. FAYE AND HER FAMILY IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AS THEY GET THRU THIS DIFFICULT TIME. AND ONCE AGAIN, I SAY THANK YOU TO THOSE OF YOU WHO TOOK A LITTLE TIME/EFFORT IN SENDING HER A NOTE/CARD THAT MEANT SO MUCH TO HER IN HER FINAL DAYS.
